I'm a registered dietitian & women's health expert who believes you should feel empowered when it comes to your fertility.

Spring of 2020 marked the true beginning of my fertility journey.

As a first-year graduate student, I found myself confronted with a multitude of symptoms that I could no longer ignore. I was experiencing brain fog, extreme fatigue, heavy + painful periods, and severe acne. My body was screaming for help. To try and alleviate these symptoms, I experimented with different forms of birth control in hopes of regulating my cycle and lessening my acne. Unfortunately, each method came with its own set of side effects. To add to my list of symptoms, chronic yeast infections became a recurring issue. At the time, I had been eating a plant-based diet for around 4 years thinking it was the best way I could nourish my body. Nothing was working and I knew I needed help.

That marked a pivotal moment when I had my first experience with a functional and integrative dietitian.

I learned that my symptoms were rooted in years of chronic stress (hello college), inadequate nourishment, my previous use of Accutane, various birth control methods, and other lifestyle factors. Additionally, my current plant-based diet lacked the essential nutrients required for my healing. The dietitian provided me with a personalized protocol, urging me to make dietary changes and reintroduce animal foods. At the time, it was a challenge as I was very passionately vegan. However, I desperately wanted to feel better and committed to trying. Little did I realize that this decision would play a crucial role in nourishing my body enough to conceive my daughter a year and a half later.

Let me emphasize that the healing process is far from linear, and it's not easy!

After investing a year and a half into healing my hormones and nourishing my body, my husband and I were thrilled when we conceived our daughter very quickly. I thought that pregnancy would be a breeze since I had diligently worked on my healing and nourishment. However, that was not the case. Pregnancy came with its own challenges for me. I really struggled with anxiety and questioned my choices often. It was through seeking support and re-learning to trust my intuition that I was able to enjoy my pregnancy and postpartum.

The path of fertility, from preconception to postpartum, is full of emotions, and it is completely normal to feel overwhelmed. My own personal journey has led me to want to prioritize you and your wellbeing. Whether you are already a mother or have aspirations of becoming one in the future, you deserve support. Having experienced the benefits of working with an integrative and functional dietitian before conceiving, I firmly believe that it played a role in a quick conception and healthy pregnancy for me. Throughout my own journey, I realized what mattered most was having support. I craved a safe space where I could freely ask questions, share my anxieties, and receive guidance. Knowing that I wasn't alone in my feelings brought immense comfort. I understand the preciousness and sanctity of this time, and it has inspired me to extend that same level of support to other women!
